INT. MELDREW LIVING ROOM – DAY
Victor is seated in his armchair, reading the newspaper. Margaret is tidying up the living room.
VICTOR
(suddenly exclaiming)
Would you look at this, Margaret? Our new neighbours have erected a massive satellite dish in their garden. It’s a complete eyesore!
MARGARET
(sighing)
Well, Victor, it’s their property. There’s not much we can do about it.
VICTOR
(grumbling)
I suppose not, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
INT. MELDREW KITCHEN – DAY
Margaret is preparing dinner when Victor enters, still annoyed about the satellite dish.
VICTOR
It’s not just the appearance, Margaret. I bet they’re using that thing to spy on people. It’s an invasion of privacy!
MARGARET
(rolling her eyes)
Oh, Victor, you’re just being paranoid. They’re probably just watching television like everyone else.
EXT. MELDREW GARDEN – DAY
Victor is outside, tending to his garden. He keeps casting suspicious glances at the neighbour’s satellite dish. He decides to take matters into his own hands.
INT. MELDREW LIVING ROOM – DAY
Margaret is watching television when Victor comes back inside, looking smug.
MARGARET
(frowning)
What have you been up to, Victor?
VICTOR
I’ve taken care of the satellite dish situation, Margaret.
MARGARET
(apprehensive)
What exactly do you mean by that?
VICTOR
Well, I might have accidentally trimmed a few branches from our tree, and one of them may have fallen onto the dish.
INT. MELDREW KITCHEN – NIGHT
Margaret and Victor are eating dinner when they hear a knock at the door. Victor answers it, finding their new neighbour standing on the doorstep.
NEIGHBOR
(angry)
I know it was you who damaged our satellite dish, Mr. Meldrew! You’re going to pay for this!
VICTOR
(defensive)
Now, hold on a minute. It was an accident! I was merely trimming my tree.
The neighbour storms off, promising to involve the authorities.
INT. MELDREW LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
Victor and Margaret are sitting in the living room, discussing the confrontation with the neighbour.
MARGARET
(stern)
You really shouldn’t have done that, Victor. Now we’ve got an enemy right next door.
VICTOR
(sighing)
I know, Margaret. I just couldn’t stand the sight of that thing. But you’re right, I should have left it alone.
EXT. MELDREW GARDEN – DAY
Victor is back in the garden, attempting to repair the damage he caused to the neighbour’s satellite dish. He’s struggling, but determined to make amends.
MARGARET
(watching from the window)
At least he’s trying to fix his mistake.
As Victor finally manages to repair the satellite dish, he accidentally slips and falls into a bush, getting tangled up in the branches. Margaret shakes her head, knowing that it’s just another day in the life of Victor Meldrew.
FADE OUT.
In the next episode, Victor and Margaret find themselves in the middle of a neighbourhood feud when a series of misunderstandings lead to escalating tensions. They must find a way to resolve the conflict and restore peace to their quiet suburban street.
